2017 A level Maths and Further Maths: Support and Guidance

Resources for Schools and Colleges

The FMSP have produced some useful summary documents.

MEI has recorded a presentation which describes what is currently known about the changes for 2017.

The FMSP has produced an implementation timeline which outlines the key milestones in the process of preparing for teaching the new A levels in 2017 and suggests actions at each stage in the process.

As soon as the draft specifications and sample assessment materials, SAMs are available in June we will put details on our website. Choosing the right specification for your students is very important. The FMSP has written a Guide to choosing a new specification to help you.

Your FMSP Area Coordinator will be able to offer advice and guidance about the introduction of the new specifications, as well as arranging events in your region. Their contact details can be found on the regional pages.

Teacher events in 2016/17

Details of CPD events and Teacher Network meetings can be found on the 2017 CPD page.

Other support

  • A specimen scheme of work for A level is being developed which can be used with any specification. This will available later this year.
  • There will be a document comparing the Further Mathematics specifications of the major awarding organisations. This will be available later this year when the specifications are published.
  • Following the "Preparing to Teach the Linear A levels" days in the Autumn term, there will be a pack of resources that can be used by your department to help you plan for implementing the new A Levels.
  • The FMSP will be organising information/discussion workshops at teacher network meetings throughout next year.
  • During 2016 and 2017, MEI's Integral online resources for A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics are being revised and enhanced to support all of the new AS and A level specifications. New types of resources are being added to provide more comprehensive support for teachers and students.

Further information about the changes and what this will mean for you and your students is available on the FAQs page. This will be updated as more information becomes available.
